There is definitely a difference between knowing someone well and being a true friend. Genuine friendship is characterized by agape love; also by a willingness to help in times of distress or very personal struggles. I've had this kind of friendship with someone, who passed on to be with the Lord on October 11, 2012. This brother helped me endure through many circumstances. This is the kind of love/relationships I'm teaching in my Small Group. We may not have to die for someone, but there are ways to show sacrificial love by listening, helping, encouraging and giving. If Christ lives in us....Proverbs 17:17 speaks to each of us.

A friend is always loyal,
and a brother is born to help in time of need.
— Proverbs 17:17

Jesus said, "There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friend". (John 15:13 NLT)

God is teaching us what true friendship looks like, using His Son as our example.

Father, I thank You for the indwelling of Your Holy Spirit. Please use me to be the true friend to those whom You have put in my life for Your glory. In Jesus name, Amen.
